Immediately after Katrina

A week after Hurricane Katrina, Pastor Patrick Keen of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in New Orleans found himself in Houston, Texas, searching for members of his flock...on a pilgrimage to offer continued hope. The journey back, much like Job's -- an innocent man who endured loss and pain through no fault of his own -- will require perserverance. Pastor Kean is coming to Amazing Grace!

A Chicago native, Keen was the first director of Chicago's Habitat for Humanity program. He is a pastor developer for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, a community developer, and a grass roots organizer—experience that has been helpful to him in dealing with the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, which hit New Orleans and the Gulf Coast three years ago this year. Keen's church, Bethlehem Lutheran, was not damaged substantially by the storm and has served as a staging area and hospitality center for relief workers. Keen has welcomed numerous church-related groups as they came to help rebuild the city (including the Lutheran Church of God’s Love many times).
